An app is HIPAA-compliant when patient data is protected by the administrative, physical and technical safeguards the HIPAA Security Rule requires, and every vendor that handles that data has signed a Business Associate Agreement. In practice that means encryption in transit and at rest, access control, audit logging, HIPAA-eligible hosting and documented processes. There is no official HIPAA certification for apps, so be wary of anyone who claims one.
Will you sign a Business Associate Agreement?
Yes. We sign a BAA before we work with any protected health information, and we only use hosting and third-party services that will sign one too.
